OBTAINING A EURASIAN PATENT FOR INDUSTRIAL DESIGNS IS NOW POSSIBLE IN TURKMENISTAN
Starting from October 13, 2024, Turkmenistan is formally joining the Protocol to the Eurasian Patent Convention on the Protection of Designs.
On July 13, 2024, the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdymukhamedov, signed a significant law that marks a new chapter in the development of the country's design sector. The Law of Turkmenistan ‘On Accession to the Protocol to the Eurasian Patent Convention of September 9, 1994, on the protection of industrial designs’ allows Turkmenistan to become a full member of this international agreement.
After the three-month period specified by Article 22(4) of the Protocol, Turkmenistan will officially join the international system of the protection of designs. Not only the legal protection of IP will be improved, but it will also significantly simplify the process of bringing Turkmen innovations to international markets.
Turkmenistan's accession will notify that all Eurasian Patent Organization member states will become parties to the Protocol. Full membership will permit the Eurasian Patent Organization to accede to The Hague Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Designs.
