ON OCTOBER 05, 2024 THE FEES FOR REGISTERING TRADEMARKS AND PATENTS INCREASE IN RUSSIA
The Russian Federation government's Resolution No. 1278 from September 18, 2024 has made significant changes to the payment procedure of official fees for the registration of intellectual property objects.
Starting from October 05, 2024 applicants no longer are able to take advantage of the 30 % fee discount previously available for electronic submissions to Rospatent. The registration of trademarks, patents, as well as other electronic services, is affected by this change, which has a significant impact on the costs for applicants and rights holders.
The procedure of paying annual fees for maintaining of invention and utility model patents in force is also changed. The annual fees are now to be paid in advance for five years, which is similar to the payment procedure for maintaining industrial design patents in force.
Additionally, the size of most official fees for intellectual property objects registration increases. It should be noted that the fee rates in Russia were last revised in 2008, and they have not been raised for an extended period of time. This has resulted in a relatively low overall cost for registering intellectual property objects in Russia compared to other countries around the world.
The document also extends benefits to specific categories of citizens. Any questions about changes in payment procedures, official fee sizes, or available benefits are welcomed by employees of the Moscow Patent Service.
